Industrial wastewater treatment system — Gia Phu Packaging Co.
Design, construction and operation of a 200 m³/day wastewater treatment system for a packaging factory in Tan Thuan EPZ, District 7, HCMC. Hoa Thanh Tien's flagship project.
Context
Gia Phu Packaging is a carton and printing manufacturer in Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone, District 7. Wastewater is generated from flexo printing, plate washing, factory cleaning and domestic use by over 200 workers. With strict discharge standards enforced by the EPZ management, Gia Phu needed a modern, space-efficient and reliably operated treatment system.
Client need
Design and build an integrated 200 m³/day wastewater treatment system meeting Tan Thuan EPZ discharge standards (equivalent to QCVN 40:2011/BTNMT Column A). The system needed automated operation, minimal staffing and future expansion capability.
Our solution
Hoa Thanh Tien deployed a comprehensive treatment solution:
• Collection and screening tank: coarse solid separation and flow equalisation
• Coagulation-flocculation system: ink and suspended solids treatment
• MBBR biological reactor: organic matter degradation with specialised biofilm carriers
• Secondary clarifier: activated sludge separation
• Pressure filtration and disinfection: ensuring clear, safe effluent
The system is PLC-controlled with online pH and flow monitoring. Sludge is dewatered through a screw press, reducing volume by 80% before disposal.
Results achieved
The system has operated stably since June 2023. Treated effluent meets all parameters required by Tan Thuan EPZ. Operating costs are 25% below initial estimates thanks to chemical optimisation and automation. The client considers this an effective investment, helping Gia Phu maintain ISO 14001 certification and meet international partner requirements.
